VMware Cloud on AWS Now Supports Subscription Model Only

Starting from August 1st, 2023, VMware Cloud on AWS will undergo significant changes to its subscription model. The on-demand model will no longer be available, and all new subscriptions must be purchased in one-year increments. Additionally, any existing on-demand hosts must be converted to a subscription by August 1st, or they will be subject to deletion.

Currently, VMware Cloud on AWS offers both subscription and on-demand models. However, with the upcoming changes, only the subscription model will be available moving forward. This means that all hosts must have an active subscription to function properly.

Existing subscriptions will still be valid, and users can continue to use their existing subscriptions until they expire. After the expiration date, users can choose to renew their subscriptions or switch to a different subscription model. However, on-demand usage will no longer be available after August 1st.

The new subscription model offers more flexibility and scalability, allowing customers to adjust their resource needs based on actual usage. This change reflects the growing demand for cloud services and the need for more flexible and scalable solutions.

To manage subscriptions and hosts, customers must use Broadcom or authorized resellers, as the VMware Cloud portal will no longer support subscription creation and management. Additionally, all costs associated with network usage will continue to be charged on-demand, and SPLA (Software Products License Agreement) users can still use on-demand resources.

In summary, the upcoming changes to VMware Cloud on AWS’s subscription model will affect existing on-demand hosts, subscription renewals, and usage costs. Customers should prepare for these changes by converting their on-demand hosts to subscriptions, adjusting their resource needs, and using authorized resellers for subscription management.
