Starting from August 1st, VMware Cloud on AWS will undergo some changes to its subscription model. Previously, customers could choose between a subscription and an on-demand model, but now the subscription model will be the only available option. Existing subscriptions will still be valid, and customers can continue to use their hosts as before.
Here are the key points to note:
1. All hosts must have a valid subscription. Previously, on-demand hosts were available for customers who did not want to commit to a subscription. However, these hosts will no longer be available, and all hosts must have a valid subscription to be used.
2. Subscriptions are now only available in 1-year increments. Previously, subscriptions were available in 1-year, 3-year, or on-demand increments. However, the new policy will only offer 1-year subscriptions.
3. Customers must purchase a subscription that matches their actual usage. Previously, customers could purchase a subscription based on their expected usage. However, under the new policy, customers must purchase a subscription that matches their actual usage, as determined by eDRS.
4. Hosts without a valid subscription can be deleted. Previously, hosts without a valid subscription were not affected. However, under the new policy, hosts without a valid subscription can be deleted if they are not being used.
5. Subscription management will be handled through Broadcom or authorized resellers. Previously, customers could manage their subscriptions through the VMware Cloud portal. However, under the new policy, customers must use Broadcom or an authorized reseller to manage their subscriptions.
6. Subscriptions only apply to hosts, not networks. Customers will still be charged for network usage based on their actual consumption, and Windows licenses can still be used on-demand.
Overall, the changes to VMware Cloud on AWS’s subscription model are aimed at providing more flexibility and scalability for customers. By requiring all hosts to have a valid subscription, VMware can better track usage and provide more accurate billing. Additionally, by offering only 1-year subscriptions, customers will have more frequent opportunities to adjust their subscriptions based on their changing needs.
