Veeam Backup and Recovery version 7: A Game Changer for vCloud Director Backups
In the latest announcement from Veeam, they have revealed that their upcoming version 7 of their popular Veeam Backup and Recovery software will include support for VMware vCloud Director. This feature is a game changer for those using vCD to manage their cloud infrastructure, as it provides a comprehensive backup solution that was previously unavailable.
As a long-time advocate for backup solutions that support vCloud Director, I am thrilled to see Veeam leading the way in this area. I have been writing about the need for better backup solutions for vCD for some time now, and it’s exciting to see a vendor step up to the challenge.
In a recent video interview with Veeam evangelist Doug Hazelman, he discussed how Veeam makes virtual infrastructure backup easy and affordable. He also highlighted why Veeam creates modern data protection for vSphere and Hyper-V virtual infrastructures. You can learn more about Veeam’s Modern Data Protection solutions in my whitepaper – 5 Fundamentals of Modern Data Protection.
One of the key benefits of Veeam Backup and Recovery version 7 is its ability to provide a single solution for backing up both virtual machines (VMs) and vCloud Director resources. This means that you can easily backup your entire cloud infrastructure, including VMs, templates, and vCD resources, all from a single console.
Another advantage of Veeam’s approach is that it provides a comprehensive backup solution that includes both snapshots and backups. This ensures that you have a complete record of all changes made to your virtual infrastructure, which can be critical in the event of data loss or corruption.
In addition to support for vCloud Director, Veeam Backup and Recovery version 7 also includes a number of other new features and enhancements. These include:
* Support for VMware vSphere 6 and Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2
* Enhanced backup and restore performance
* Improved user interface and user experience
* New integrated backup reporting and monitoring capabilities
Overall, the inclusion of support for vCloud Director in Veeam Backup and Recovery version 7 is a significant development that will make it easier for organizations to protect their cloud infrastructure. I am looking forward to testing and exploring this new feature in more detail.
