Exciting News: Pure Storage Cloud Block Store (CBS) Terraform Provider for Azure!
We are thrilled to announce the second release of the Pure Storage Cloud Block Store (CBS) Terraform Provider, which now includes support for Cloud Block Store on Azure! This new release brings a host of benefits and streamlined deployment processes for our customers. In this blog post, we will dive into the new features and improvements of the CBS Terraform Provider for Azure.
What is Pure Storage Cloud Block Store (CBS)?
Before we get started with the new Terraform Provider, let’s quickly recap what Pure Storage Cloud Block Store (CBS) is all about. CBS is a purpose-built block storage system that currently sits in AWS and Azure. It offers many benefits and use cases, such as high performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. You can find out more about the benefits of CBS here.
Deploying Cloud Block Store on Azure with Terraform
With the new Terraform Provider, deploying a Cloud Block Store instance on Azure is now faster and more streamlined than ever before! Here’s how it works:
1. First, you need to authenticate your Azure account using the Azure CLI. This is a one-time process that will allow you to access your Azure subscription from within Terraform.
2. Once you have authenticated your Azure account, you can use the Terraform provider to deploy a CBS instance on Azure. The process takes approximately 15 minutes!
3. To provision a CBS instance on Azure, you will need to configure a set of Azure pre-requisites beforehand. These pre-requisites include things like your Azure subscription ID, resource group name, and location.
4. After you have configured the pre-requisites, you can use the Terraform provider to deploy your CBS instance on Azure. The samples provided in the documentation are variablized for ease of deployment, so all you need to do is edit the terraform.tfvars file with your parameters.
5. Once the deployment is complete, you can run terraform show to see the output and identify the controller IP addresses. Alternatively, you can log in to Azure and look up your Managed Application for the deployment outputs.
Important Notes and Considerations
1. Currently, destroying the Terraform resource will not deactivate the CBS instance. The instance will have to be deactivated manually once the resource has been destroyed. Please see the deployment guide for information on how to remove CBS instances.
2. To remove a CBS instance on Azure, you can follow these steps:
* Go to the Azure portal and navigate to your Resource Group.
* Look for the Cloud Block Store resource and click on it.
* Click on the “Delete” button to delete the resource.
3. The documentation for Removing Cloud Block Store on Azure can be found here.
Future Use Cases and Expansion
With the new Terraform Provider for CBS on Azure, the possibilities are endless! We can now fully automate the provisioning of Cloud Block Store on both AWS and Azure. Future posts will expand on use cases such as how to use CBS with AWS, Azure, VMware Cloud on AWS, and more!
Conclusion
We hope you are as excited about this new release as we are! The Pure Storage Cloud Block Store Terraform Provider for Azure brings a host of benefits and streamlined deployment processes for our customers. Whether you’re looking to automate your CBS deployments or explore new use cases, this release has got you covered.
