VMware VCAP-DCD Beta Exam Experience
As a VMware certified professional, I recently had the opportunity to take the VMware Certified Advanced Professional – Datacenter Design (VCAP-DCD) beta exam at New Horizons. The exam was only one week long, and there wasn’t much information available online for preparation or reviews from other test-takers. However, I was able to find some resources on the VMware communities forum, which helped me prepare for the exam.
The official blueprint for the VCAP-DCD exam is similar in scope to the VCAP-DCA exam, and VMware recommends the “vSphere Design Workshop” training as preparation. I was unable to take this training due to time constraints, but I was able to review the blueprint and study the design methodology used by VMware. Additionally, I found the “vSphere Manage for Performance” course helpful in preparing for the exam.
The beta test consisted of 131 questions that had to be answered in 270 minutes, including a 30-minute break for non-native English speakers. The questions were a mix of multiple choice and design scenarios, where we had to use a Visio-like tool to create design sketches. Some of the questions were quite complex and required careful reading of the question statements.
I found the experience of taking the exam to be quite stressful, as there was not much time to spare and I had to work quickly to answer all the questions. Additionally, there were no “back” or “previous” buttons to navigate between questions, so I had to carefully plan my time and make sure I answered each question thoroughly before moving on.
The multiple-choice questions were similar to those found in the VCP exam, but the design scenarios were a new challenge for me. I had to use the provided tool to create design sketches, and then answer questions about the sketches. Some of the questions were quite tricky, and required careful consideration of the design requirements.
Overall, I found the VCAP-DCD beta exam to be more challenging than the VCP exam, as it requires a deeper understanding of vSphere design and architecture. However, I was able to pass the exam, and I am now looking forward to taking the next step in my VMware certification journey.
Update: I have also passed the VCAP-DCD exam, and I am now planning to pursue the VCDX certification. I hope that my experience and knowledge will help me succeed in this next phase of my career.
