On the Road to Nowhere

Four months have passed since my last blog post, and I must admit that the frequency of my posts has not been as high as I would have liked. This blog has been a bit of a mixed bag for me, with some successful experiments and projects, but also a fair share of failures and disappointments. As I reflect on my experiences over the past year, I am reminded of the saying “well begun is half done.”

In the past, my focus has been primarily on infrastructure-related topics such as networks, storage, virtualization with VMware, and full stack technical projects. However, my interests have shifted over time, and I have found myself delving deeper into products like Microsoft Exchange and Office 365, as well as cloud computing platforms like Azure. Additionally, I have taken on more leadership tasks since January 2020, which has been a challenging but rewarding experience.

One of the most significant changes in my career over the past year has been the transition from technical projects to management positions. While I still enjoy doing technical work, I find myself spending more time on leadership tasks and consulting for Microsoft products. The recertification requirements for my VCP/VCAP certifications were particularly frustrating, but I have learned a great deal from other areas of IT as well.

Looking back on my 23 years in the industry, I am grateful for the many opportunities I have had to learn and grow. However, I cannot help but feel a sense of unease about my career path going forward. As I approach the age of 40 and reflect on the remaining 25 years until retirement, I find myself questioning whether the technical aspects of my job bring me the same level of satisfaction as they once did.

Despite these mixed emotions, I remain committed to this blog and plan to continue posting content here whenever possible. I hope that you will return from time to time and add this blog to your RSS reader, as I look forward to sharing more of my thoughts and experiences in the future. Thank you for reading!
