VMware NSX-v 6.4.1: Enhancements and Support for vSphere 6.7
Last week, VMware released NSX-v 6.4.1 (Build 8599035), which includes several new features and addresses numerous resolved issues from previous releases. This latest release is significant as it supports vSphere 6.7 fully, allowing users to take advantage of the latest virtualization platform while utilizing NSX-v’s advanced networking and security capabilities.
Key Features and Enhancements
One of the most notable features in NSX-v 6.4.1 is the automatic backup feature that saves the state of the NSX Manager locally before upgrading. This ensures that users can easily revert to the previous version if any issues arise during the upgrade process. Additionally, the HTML5 web client continues to be enhanced with more options and features available compared to the 6.4 base release.
The NSX User Interface has seen significant improvements, with additional components added to the HTML5 Web Client. Installation, Groups and Tags, Firewall, Service Composer, Application Rule Manager, SpoofGuard, IPFIX, and Flow Monitoring are now available through the HTML5 vSphere Client. VMware maintains a web page that showcases the current NSX for vSphere UI plug-in functionality.
Security Services have received improvements in the Firewall with additional layer 7 application context support for Symantec LiveUpdate Traffic, MaxDB SQL Server support, and support for web-based Git or version control. The Identity Firewall now extends support to user sessions on RDP and application servers, covering Server 2012 and 2012 R2 with specific VMTool versions.
The NSX Load Balance has been enhanced to scale up to 256 pool members from the previous limit of 32, providing a significant improvement to an already robust feature of the NSX Edges. Other enhancements include improved overall operations and troubleshooting pages, making it easier for users to manage and maintain their NSX environments.
Support and Upgrade Notes
Users with the correct entitlements can download NSX-v 6.4.1 from the VMware website. Before upgrading, it is essential to review the release notes and known issues document to ensure a smooth and successful upgrade process. The document includes information on resolved issues, new features, and enhancements, as well as any known issues that may affect service providers.
Special Upgrade and Supportability Notes
VMware NSX-v 6.4.1 is now available for download, offering enhanced features and support for vSphere 6.7. With the automatic backup feature and improved security services, users can enjoy a more secure and robust networking and security platform. The enhancements to the HTML5 web client and NSX User Interface make it easier for administrators to manage their environments, while the load balance enhancements provide better performance and scalability.
