Traveling the World as a Global Technologist at Veeam
As a global technologist at Veeam, my role requires me to travel to various locations and events throughout the year. In 2019, I covered a lot more kilometers compared to previous years, with a total of 146 days away from home, which equates to 40% of the year spent on travel.
One of the highlights of my travels in 2019 was being able to incorporate a family holiday to England and Malta in July. This was a well-deserved break for me and my family, and it was great to spend some quality time together exploring new places.
Besides the family holiday, there were many other highlights of my travels this year. One of the most notable was attending Cloud Field Day 5 and Tech Field Day 20, which were both amazing experiences. These events provided me with the opportunity to learn about the latest technologies and network with other professionals in the industry.
Another highlight of my travels was being able to visit our Presidents Club in Hawaii in April with my wife. This was a fantastic opportunity to relax and unwind, and it was great to spend some quality time together in such a beautiful location.
In terms of stats, I flew a total of 78 flights in 2019, with 32 domestic and 46 international flights. These flights took me on a journey of 146,000 kilometers, which is the equivalent of flying around the Earth nearly 4 times! I also spent a total of 21.7 days in the air, which is an incredible amount of time considering all the other activities I had to fit in throughout the year.
One of the tools I use to keep track of my travels is Tripit, which allows me to import my flight data and analyze it. This year, I also used FlightRadar24 to get a better picture of my travels and edit any strange imports from Tripit that AppInTheAir couldn’t deal with.
Overall, 2019 was an amazing year for me as a global technologist at Veeam. I had the opportunity to visit many new places, attend exciting events, and spend quality time with my family. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me and my team at Veeam!
