Unpacking the First Virtual Infrastructure Meetup of 2019

Virtual Infrastructure Meeting – A Recap of the Latest Trends and Products

On April 5th, I attended a virtual infrastructure meeting hosted by Tintri and DDN. The event was well-attended, with over 30 participants, and provided valuable insights into the latest trends and products in the virtual infrastructure space.

Tintri’s Special Session

Tintri started the event with a special session on their VMware-based products. They showcased their unique storage design that does not require a separate storage network, making it more cost-effective and efficient. Some of the key features presented include:

* NFS mounting

* Tenant segregation

* Automatic QoS and manual QoS (based on VM names)

* IOPS and latency monitoring

* Demonstrations of their products in a test environment

DDN’s Special Session

DDN also presented a special session on their storage solutions, focusing on their large-scale storage offerings. They highlighted the benefits of their high-performance and high-capacity storage systems, including:

* Large-scale storage for massive data growth

* Cost-effectiveness as scale increases

* Machine room demonstrations of their products in action

Migration to VMUG.com

The meeting also covered the upcoming migration of JapanVMUG’s community platform from VMUG.jp to VMUG.com. The migration is scheduled to take place within this year, and the goal is to provide a more integrated experience for members across all regions.

Education Program

The meeting touched on the possibility of incorporating an education program into the JapanVMUG calendar. While nothing has been finalized yet, the idea is to offer more structured learning opportunities for members, potentially through webinars or workshops.

Original Name Badges

As an added incentive for participating in the meeting, JapanVMUG offered original name badges for all attendees. These unique badges made for a fun and memorable experience, and I was happy to receive one myself.

The next virtual infrastructure meeting is scheduled for June 21st, hosted by Pasoona. I’m looking forward to attending more of these events and staying up-to-date on the latest trends and products in the virtual infrastructure space.
