Updating from vCSA 6.7u1 to vCSA 6.7u2

The latest version of vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA) is now available, with updated features and improvements. In this blog post, we will guide you through the process of updating your existing vCSA environment to the newest version.

Before we begin, it’s important to note that this update is a significant one, and it may require some downtime for your vCSA environment. Therefore, we recommend that you schedule the update during a maintenance window when possible.

To start the update process, follow these steps:

1. Download the patch file: Go to MyVMware and select “Products” > “vCenter Server Appliance Patches” to download the latest patch file for your vCSA environment.

2. Store the patch file in DataStore: Once you have downloaded the patch file, store it in your DataStore for easy access later.

3. Mount the patch file: In the vCSA “Settings Editor,” select “Edit” > “Add Patch” and choose the patch file you stored in DataStore earlier. Then, click “Mount” to mount the patch file.

4. Apply the patch: Once the patch is mounted, you can apply it by going to “Update” > “Apply Now.” The update process may take some time, depending on the size of the patch and the speed of your network.

During the update process, you may see a progress bar indicating the percentage complete. It’s important to note that the estimated downtime for this update is approximately 46 minutes, but this time may vary depending on your environment and network conditions.

After the update is complete, you can verify that it was successful by going to “Settings Editor” > “About.” The version number should now be v6.7.2.0.

In conclusion, updating your vCenter Server Appliance environment to the latest version is a straightforward process that can provide numerous benefits, including improved performance and security. We recommend that you schedule this update during a maintenance window to minimize downtime for your production environment.

Additionally, it’s important to note that native backup is not supported after the vCSA6.7.2.0 upgrade. Therefore, if you have been using native backup, we recommend that you switch to an alternative backup solution before upgrading.
