In this blog post, I will be discussing my experience with Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition, a free backup software solution. I will outline the installation process and provide an overview of the console interface. Additionally, I will mention some limitations of the Community Edition and my plans for future articles on using Veeam in a vSphere environment.
Previously, I created a Windows Server 2019 template VM and decided to give Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition a try. The software can be downloaded from the following site: Free Backup Solution – Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition. To download the iso file, you will need to create an account on the Veeam website and then click on the “DOWNLOAD FREE” button.
Once the iso file is downloaded, I mounted it on my Windows Server machine and ran the Setup.exe file. The installation process was straightforward and completed without any issues. After the installation was finished, an icon for Veeam Backup & Replication Console appeared on my desktop.
Upon clicking on the console icon, I was prompted to log in with my Veeam account credentials. Once I logged in, I was able to access the console and begin exploring the software’s features. However, I noticed that some of the features were grayed out or unavailable in the Community Edition, such as the ability to register for Enterprise Manager.
In my next article, I plan to discuss the process of registering vCenter with Veeam Backup & Replication. Before proceeding, I would like to mention that the Community Edition has some limitations, such as the inability to use certain features and the lack of support for advanced functionality. Despite these limitations, I am still impressed with the software’s capabilities and look forward to exploring it further.
In conclusion, Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition is a solid backup solution that offers many features for free. While there are some limitations to the Community Edition, it is still a valuable tool for those looking for a cost-effective backup solution. In my next article, I will delve deeper into the process of registering vCenter with Veeam Backup & Replication. Thank you for reading!
