Building a Lab Environment with vSphere with Tanzu 8.0 U2 and NSX

Creating a NSX Advanced Load Balancer (NSX ALB) Environment in vSphere with Tanzu 8.0 U2

In this article, we will discuss how to create a NSX Advanced Load Balancer (NSX ALB) environment in vSphere with Tanzu 8.0 U2. We will cover the steps to configure DHCP for NSX ALB and create two overlay segments for the NSX ALB SE.

Step 1: Create a new network profile for NSX ALB

To start, we need to create a new network profile for NSX ALB. To do this, navigate to Networking > Network Profiles > New Network Profile. Fill in the following information:

* Name: NSX-ALB-Network-Profile

* Type: VMware-NSX-Advanced-Load-Balancer

Click Next and then click Finish. This will create a new network profile for NSX ALB.

Step 2: Create a new DHCP profile for NSX ALB

Next, we need to create a new DHCP profile for NSX ALB. To do this, navigate to Networking > DHCP Profiles > New DHCP Profile. Fill in the following information:

* Name: NSX-ALB-DHCP-Profile

* Type: VMware-NSX-Advanced-Load-Balancer

Click Next and then click Finish. This will create a new DHCP profile for NSX ALB.

Step 3: Configure DHCP for NSX ALB

Now that we have created the network profile and DHCP profile for NSX ALB, we need to configure DHCP for NSX ALB. To do this, navigate to Networking > DHCP Profiles > NSX-ALB-DHCP-Profile. Click on the Edit button next to the DHCP profile. In the Edit DHCP Profile window, select the Enable DHCP check box. Fill in the following information:

* IP address range: 10.10.10.0/24

* Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

* Default gateway: 10.10.10.1

Click Save to save the changes. This will configure DHCP for NSX ALB.

Step 4: Create two overlay segments for the NSX ALB SE

Next, we need to create two overlay segments for the NSX ALB SE. To do this, navigate to Networking > Overlay Segments > New Overlay Segment. Fill in the following information:

* Name: NSX-ALB-Overlay-Segment-1

* Type: VMware-NSX-Advanced-Load-Balancer

Click Next and then click Finish. This will create the first overlay segment for the NSX ALB SE. Repeat the same process to create a second overlay segment for the NSX ALB SE, but this time use the following information:

* Name: NSX-ALB-Overlay-Segment-2

Click Next and then click Finish. This will create the second overlay segment for the NSX ALB SE.

Step 5: Assign IP addresses to the NSX ALB SE

Now that we have created the overlay segments for the NSX ALB SE, we need to assign IP addresses to the NSX ALB SE. To do this, navigate to Networking > Overlay Segments > NSX-ALB-Overlay-Segment-1. Click on the Edit button next to the overlay segment. In the Edit Overlay Segment window, select the Assign IP address check box. Fill in the following information:

* IP address: 10.10.10.100

* Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

* Default gateway: 10.10.10.1

Click Save to save the changes. This will assign an IP address to the NSX ALB SE. Repeat the same process to assign an IP address to the second overlay segment for the NSX ALB SE, using the following information:

* IP address: 10.10.10.200

Click Save to save the changes. This will assign an IP address to the second overlay segment for the NSX ALB SE.

Step 6: Configure the NSX ALB SE with the DHCP profile

Now that we have created the network profile, DHCP profile, and assigned IP addresses to the NSX ALB SE, we need to configure the NSX ALB SE with the DHCP profile. To do this, navigate to Networking > Overlay Segments > NSX-ALB-Overlay-Segment-1. Click on the Edit button next to the overlay segment. In the Edit Overlay Segment window, select the Configure with DHCP check box. Select the NSX-ALB-DHCP-Profile from the list of available DHCP profiles.

Click Save to save the changes. This will configure the NSX ALB SE with the DHCP profile. Repeat the same process to configure the second overlay segment for the NSX ALB SE, using the following information:

* Select the Configure with DHCP check box

* Select the NSX-ALB-DHCP-Profile from the list of available DHCP profiles

Click Save to save the changes. This will configure the second overlay segment for the NSX ALB SE with the DHCP profile.

Step 7: Verify the configuration

Finally, let’s verify that the configuration is correct. To do this, navigate to Networking > Overlay Segments > NSX-ALB-Overlay-Segment-1. Click on the Edit button next to the overlay segment. In the Edit Overlay Segment window, select the Verify Configuration check box.

Click Save to save the changes. This will verify that the configuration is correct. Repeat the same process to verify the configuration for the second overlay segment for the NSX ALB SE.

That’s it! We have successfully configured DHCP for NSX ALB and created two overlay segments for the NSX ALB SE.
